Next Door Family Resources
Serving families with young children since 1981.
Next Door Family Resources provides nurturing environments within our community where parents, caregivers and young children can build
relationships to promote the well-being of themselves and their families.
Our Programs
NDFR operates two main program streams that provide much needed resources for thousands of adults and children in
west Toronto and South Etobicoke. With a health promotion focus, our goal as a Family Resource Program is to support families by providing information and referrals to community services while bringing families together in positive, enriching and caring environments.
-
Family Drop-In Centres NDFR operates four drop-in programs in south Etobicoke. Drop-in programs operate Monday to Friday, primarily in the mornings and are for children from birth to six years old accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Activities at
the drop-in centres focus on enhancing the health and wellbeing of families and are organized by professional staff.
-
Child Care Registry The Child Care Registry is a referral service which helps parents and caregivers alike. For parents, help is available on navigating through the child care system, locating licensed child care providers, where to look for unlicensed home child care providers, how to screen child care providers and how to establish/maintain the parent-caregiver relationship. We support home child care providers in starting a child care business, advertising for clients, setting rates, planning activities for children and with information on how to become licensed. NDFR operates a help line to provide parents and caregivers with a place to discuss their child care issues.
NDFR has published a book, A Guide to Home Daycare, which helps parents understand child care options and establish healthy and effective childcare partnerships.
Welcome Message from the Executive Director
Welcome,
In 1981, the idea of starting a family resource program was born to two stay-at-home
mothers who had a shared need for companionship and support for themselves and their young children.
Together with like-minded neighbours, they formed a group and got together as often as possible.
Soon after, they discovered that a great number of local families shared a
need for companionship, support and parenting information. It wasn’t long before the
original small group grew to become established drop-in programs and the network that helped families
with young children and home based child care providers became Next Door Family
Resources.
Fast forward to today and Next Door Family Resources has grown from those humble beginnings to meet the needs of thousands of parents, caregivers and children in the community.
We are delighted to continue to offer support to families and together with you, hope to do so for many years to come.
Welcome to our website and to our ever growing community!
Regards,
Erika Aucoin,
Executive Director
